My daughter also had a problem with overheating on topamax. We are still on it and she did get to the point that the side affect was reduced. Our doctor said that is also a side affect of zonegran so keep an eye on your son with the new zonegran. She told us to pour water on her when she is hot to wet her as if she had sweated. So far though she hasn't had too much a problem with that and plays sports but it is early spring.

Well my son was just put on Zonegran also. No notice yet, it's only been a few days. We are taking him off of Tompamax and he is still on Carbatrol. He is almost 11. As far as medicine causing more seizures, well....my son had a bad few months when he was 8, and they added lamictal, and every other week they raised it, and he had more seizures. The week after he stopped it and started Topamax, he did not have a seizure for 18 months. So I do think "certain" cases can have more seizures with meds. My son does not sweat on Topamax, but his Dr. insists that it is extremely rare that happens. I often wonder, since I have heard others complain about overheating.Good luck to all, I pray everynight for my son to be seizure free.
