My daughter is 4 and was taking zonegran.  She didn't have any side effects that we noticed.  SHe was taking depakote at the same time.  She was weened on the zonegran after starting the Ketogenic diet.  The diet has worked either.    They are now talking about Lemictal for her which sounds very scary.

Good Luck.

Hi, all I am a new member to the sight and am new to the world of epilepsy. My daughter was born with a chromosome deletion and has recently developed seizures. She is 4 years old and her first seizure was over a year ago, they chalked it up as a febrile seizure. Her second one was one month ago (grand mal to the fullest extent) and her neurologist started her on Zonegran 50mg at night before bed. She immediately started experiencing milder yet more frequent seizures, one or two everday, so her doctor raised the dosage to 75mg and the seizures stated coming three, four and five times a day. Her doctor assures me that the meds won't cause seizures. I have to have faith that the meds are helping due to the fact that the seizures are milder. It just seems like the more meds we give her the more seizures she has. We are still working to find the right dosage, we are at 100mg nightly now, however, she is on her 6th seizure today. I haven't noticed any side affects although my daughter can't talk to communicate anything she might be feeling. (In the process of learning sign.) She has a developmental delay of about 1 1/2 to 2 years. No rash so far but from reading the other discussions it seems that 100mg once a day is still a very low dosage, her dr also stated that kidney stones may be a risk. Well, I was very happy to find the discussion group on Zonegran and any new information would be very helpful. I need all I can get right now, kind of freaking out!
