Need help getting 2 yr old to take Zonegran

Wed, 08/30/2006 - 23:09
Hi, My 2 yr old son was prescribed Zonegran, which apparently only comes in capsule form. I've tried opening them and mixing the powder in foods and drinks, but he won't touch anything we've mixed it in. Swallowing the caps whole is not an option for him and the powder is very bitter and hard to camouflage. Does anyone have any other suggestions on how I can get the med into him? The neurologist has been less than helpful on this issue. Thanks! Nicole

My 7 year old is taking Zonegran and the only way I can get her to take it is to pour into a very small glass with Applejuice. The yogurt did not work because it seemed to prolong the taste. I recently started using the little measuring cups from the Tylenol. Pour a little bit of AJ then sprinke on top you have to hurry or it settles on the bottom.

Hi Nicole, my 2 year old son is also on zonogran. I know what you mean, trying to get it in him was a nightmare. We finally found a Compounding Pharmacy in our area. The medicine is compounded into a liquid that my son loves. We have also had this done with other bad tasting meds for him. Check your phonebook or ask around for a pharmacy that compounds medicine, I think it will do the trick. Just to let you know it is costly so if that is an issue you might ask about the price first. I hope this is helpful. GOD BLESS, S.
