living with it

At first i thought that i was crazy, but i came to this site and i almost cried because everything is true.  But is it possible to have both absence and complex partial epilepsy?  Is it possible to have several types at once?

I just stare, and sometimes i almost drool.  but with me, i am sort of aware of everything that goes on.  i hear things, but i can't respond, like my whole being does'nt have the energy to respond, so i sort of can't move.  but on  a few occassions, i started to rock back and forth.  I thought that i was crazy because my doctors gave me an EEG, but nothing was abnormal.  But they said that it may have been that i just wasn't having a seizure at that time.  My head tips most times rolls to my left and my eyes roll up and to the left also.  If i'm standing, i do feel weak, but i haven't fell yet.  I mostly just stand there until it passes.  But the bad ones, fortunatley, have only happened while sitting.  But mostly i feel that i will have one soon, usually in the morning,  I feel wierd.  I can;t concentrate.  my thoughts are sometimes confused.  I rememeber one time all of a sudden my brain felt like every neruon was turned on and on fire.  It was like i was thinking of everything and nothing at the same time.  my thoughts were at hyper-drive, and then i had this irresistable urge to take off running as fast as i could.  i don't know what that was, but it was before my diagnosis.  i am so glad that i found this site, because i have longed to just talk to people who understand what i go through, and it is also very reassuring that i am not crazy.

Hi Ash!Boy, I spent about ten years in colleges getting various degrees and I don't know what I would have done if I had epilepsy then! I really do feel for you.As far as the sleep thing, I may be offering advice that you have heard before. If so, I'm sorry, but here is what I do:(1) No exercise, smoking, alcohol, or caffeine 3 hours before bed.(2) Go to bed at the same time every night(3) Take two (2) three mg pills of time release melatonin one (1) hour before bed (this is the substance your mind naturally manufactures to stimulate sleepÂ… you don't need a prescription for it)(4) Take a warm bath 1 hour before bed.(5) Listen to soothing music for the one hour before bed. (I like Enya). Lock the door and turn off the phone for that one hour.(6) Work on visualization. See yourself falling asleep in a warm patch of sun in a place that would be most relaxing to you.(7) I do burn a little incense to helpÂ… but only a very little bit so it doesn't interfere with the oxygen in the room.I wish you luck and blessings in finding relaxing sleep!

I knew that I could count on you to offer advice that was grounded in wisdom.Wisdom gleaned over the years that has found the way to go in what, and what does not work.I read your replies ,that are always as usual both positive and practical,and upbeat and a good example?

I think you are ,and you tell it like it is-both good and bad,but remain fixed, focused ,and positive whilst doing so.Talking to your doc,and the pharmacist to work out what is needed at times when it seems that hitting the wall running is happening-mentally and physically.That's what it feels like when it happens-or it does to me.So I learned not to meddle and mess with my meds ,and do the correct and proper wisest thing that you describe-talk to the ones that can help.Also to judge  for myself what was happening,then talk more to them,describe what was happening,use my judgement, and between us come up with a workable plan that retained good quality of life for myself.Last but not least-be thankful and share my knowledge with others.

You both give me far too much credit. I guess I don't know how else to be anymore. Lying and hiding never worked in the past and honesty and openness seem far more pleasant and productive.Ash you need to be talking to your neuro about the sleep problem. Yes it is both an affect but also a contributor to seizures. You need to get a handle on it to help reduce your peoblems in other areas.If you are in college on a scholorship then you must have earned it. Medical problems will not be cause for losing it but attendance problems and falling grades could be. Talk to the doc about a course of action then go to your professors with the plan and see what you can work out with them. The ball is in your court.Later........................Lee
