living with it

At first i thought that i was crazy, but i came to this site and i almost cried because everything is true.  But is it possible to have both absence and complex partial epilepsy?  Is it possible to have several types at once?

I just stare, and sometimes i almost drool.  but with me, i am sort of aware of everything that goes on.  i hear things, but i can't respond, like my whole being does'nt have the energy to respond, so i sort of can't move.  but on  a few occassions, i started to rock back and forth.  I thought that i was crazy because my doctors gave me an EEG, but nothing was abnormal.  But they said that it may have been that i just wasn't having a seizure at that time.  My head tips most times rolls to my left and my eyes roll up and to the left also.  If i'm standing, i do feel weak, but i haven't fell yet.  I mostly just stand there until it passes.  But the bad ones, fortunatley, have only happened while sitting.  But mostly i feel that i will have one soon, usually in the morning,  I feel wierd.  I can;t concentrate.  my thoughts are sometimes confused.  I rememeber one time all of a sudden my brain felt like every neruon was turned on and on fire.  It was like i was thinking of everything and nothing at the same time.  my thoughts were at hyper-drive, and then i had this irresistable urge to take off running as fast as i could.  i don't know what that was, but it was before my diagnosis.  i am so glad that i found this site, because i have longed to just talk to people who understand what i go through, and it is also very reassuring that i am not crazy.

Wendy,

It is probably the meds. And yes he feels like he is going crazy. He has all this energy and he has to let it out. A 4 year old will just do it --act out-- because he does not know how and cannot control it. As far as the neuro say it should mellow him out- NO ONE knows what these meds will do to a person. They are ALL brain altering drugs and it just depends on how your brain is wired since we are all wired differently. My mother can take and asperin and she is like she is drugged. I can take seditives and you might as well give me M&Ms --so it is all in body chemistry. Your son might outgrown it eventually but then again not. I would see how bad it gets --if it is controlling the seizures than you have to weigh the pros and cons-- Second opinions from another doctor does not hurt.  WHAT YOU WANT TO DO is keep your son from being labeled and keep mental health away from him!

It is possible to have several types of seizures.  I, also, have absence and complex partial.  My children and grandchildren tell me that I stare (but I'm not aware of my surroundings) and make repetitive movements....mostly rubbing around my mouth.  When I regain my senses (sorry, can't think of a better word), I am confused and tired.  Each person displays different symptoms.  I have a cat who can sense a seizure and he won't let me go on my daily three mile walk if he senses one in the making.  I have found out more from visiting this site than all my visits to doctors.  I just found out that taking Benedryl can trigger a seizure!  It is common to have memory loss caused by the seizures and, also, some medications.  Now if you add to that growing older (my grandson calls it "elderlying") you have a three-edge lead!!  Keep visiting this site and God bless you.

Thank you for the benedryl tip. I take it occasionally for my allergies but will find another way to cope. I love this site, and I like you have found out so much about my condition from reading and writing posts. I just had to leave a job because of memory loss -- short term brought on by either the drugs or the condition and am now making the adjustment to simple jobs as opposed to complex ones with high learning curves. It was very disturbing to realize because I am in debt and will not be able to make the same amount of money as I did before. I am only 50, but I initially thought it was just old age creeping up on me a little early. Now I think differently. ;-O
