Has anyone had success with medication

Mon, 01/23/2006 - 18:18
My son is 15 and just started Lamictal. (First med treatment/started seizures approx 1 month ago) I have been reading a lot re: Lamictal and Epilepsy online and have not run across anyone stating they are on meds and in control of their seizures. Are there any success stories? Thanks, Kelley

I hope your son does well on Lamictal. That is a med I am looking at as an add on for my son. The literature says that around 70% of those with epilepsy can get control with medication. I do not see this much on the internet boards, but I think that is because most parents, when they have the control, do not feel as much need to seek information and support. I think it is good for all who deal with seizures, controlled or not, come and get support. It also helps others to see that control is possible! Hang in there! My son is 14, will be 15 in March. Has had seizures over half his life, probably had them long before diagnosis, as well. G

The road to Success is rarely a short one. Diagnosed at the age of 7 and now 51 i think back on the #@*! that I went through to get this far. I had violent Grand Mal seizures and i have plenty of scares to show for it. As I grew it seemed that I also grew out of my medication because it had to be change so often. In my 30`s it came to a point where it had to take a toxic dose in order to keep my seizure under control.(6 Dilantin 100mg@,2 Mysoline 250mg@ and 2 phenobarbital 30mmg@ = 1160mg a day) After taking this toxic dose for close to 10 years,I decided that I was tired of, walking like a drunk, sounding like a drunk and looking like I was some dope addict, I slowly started to cut back on my medication. Now I`m down to 5 100mg Dilantin a day, now after about 3 years of adjusting my medicine on my own my seizures have been under control for 12 years and the only time a seizure will occur is when I miss taking my medication. Taking my meds is like a ritual.

I am 26 and have been on Lamictal for several months slowly upping the dose. I had one siezure in October on a lower dose but since upping the dose again I have had none since! This does not mean I am seizure free... I am going to wait and see, but so far so good! Lamictal seems to have the least side effects for me.
