Epilepsy and marijuana

Hi all, I was wondering whether or not the effects of pot on the brain can intefere with the effects of the epilepsy medicine Tegretol 400mg per day. I know grapefruit and alcohol have adverse effects on the drug's treatments and can lead to uncontrollabe seizure possibilities in some cases. However, in the case of weed I do not not if it does have any interference or not. So if anyone could help me here I would appreciate it. Thanks.Chris

What an interesting topic indeed. Whelp, I can only speak from my own experience. I am a veteran "wake and bake" pot smoker of 25 years. Well, at least until realizing my diagnosis in January of 06' a little over a year ago. I haven't burned since because I don't know that I wouldn't completely LAUNCH. Having made a few changes in my lifestyle and taking 1200mg Trileptal daily I don't really feel that I need to. I get that same relaxation out of "one" single 12oz beer. If I may though, the clinical studies are out there if one chooses to do the research and have proven its effectiveness but the Feds nor pharmaceutical companies will acknowledge nor condone such usage. Med marijuana made somewhere in the vacinity of $136,000,000 in the State of California last year. That's "Millions" folks. Most of those using aren't truly medical-related cases but there are a handful that do utilize the evil weed for medical epilepsy and those stories are successful in nature, with and without other medications in conjunct. Would I ever smoke again? Probably not. But to those whom it's working... help yourselves. I support you in the fullest- you can burn one for me.

I don't follow your logic. Why are you blaming lamictal for not feeling well after smoking marijuana? Maybe the latter is the problem! There are controversial information on marijuana and seizures, with some reporting positive effects, and others reporting possible worsening of seizures. Check it all out completely.
