Epilepsy and marijuana

Sat, 02/05/2005 - 12:32
Hi all, I was wondering whether or not the effects of pot on the brain can intefere with the effects of the epilepsy medicine Tegretol 400mg per day. I know grapefruit and alcohol have adverse effects on the drug's treatments and can lead to uncontrollabe seizure possibilities in some cases. However, in the case of weed I do not not if it does have any interference or not. So if anyone could help me here I would appreciate it. Thanks.Chris

Howdy Chris,I have juvenile

Howdy Chris,I have juvenile my-clonic epilepsy and take 750mg of divalproex(depakote) a day, 250mg am 500mg pm. I have had inference with my medication but for the most part if I wait 90 minutes before and after each dose I'm fine. If I smoke an excess amount it will cause a seizure but I can smoke a quarter gram of bud in one sitting and be fine. I do have a more serious case of epilepsy but as long as I take my medication I'm fine. I have been smoking for almost 2 years now and it has helped with the depression side effect but I don't know if it's perfectly safe as I do suspect some weird things my body does, but it could be from the sheer quantity of seizures that has cause it(almost 1000 atonic seizures and under 15 tonic clonic). Some side affects are blurred vision, odd jerks and twitches in my fingers sometimes, mostly right after smoking. But all in all I've been okay and I just keep going.
