CBD/Surgery

Mon, 01/08/2018 - 14:52
Hello everyone my name is mike, and I have complex partial seizures caused by right temporal lobe epilepsy. I have viewed this forum a few times, but this is my first time making a thread. My neurologist recently suggested that I should go for surgery and have my right hippocampus removed, because I have tried several medications and they do not completely control my seizures. They say that the surgery is very successful and has a high success rate. Also that it has come a long way in the past few years, but it still is terrifys me... I was wondering a couple things.. If anyone that has the same epilepsy as me has tried using CBD and what their experience was with it. Does it completely control your seizures? Do you still have to take your other medications? Have u got immune to it? I was also wondering about people that have had the surgery and how you are doing now. Are u seizure free,? Do you still have to take medications? How is ur scaring? Or if anyone has any links to other related discussions or helpful articles it would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks for sharing your experience Beetle. This is one of the things I am really worried about, is having the surgery and then still having seizures and having to take meds afterwords or maybe something worse..Glad to hear yours eventually went away again.

Hi Mike. The surgery in 2006

Hi Mike. The surgery in 2006 was the second.Sorry I didn't mention in first post. My first was in 2000. I was seizure free for almost 2 years. I was still better than I was before the op. The seizures started to return a little more often, but still not as often as before. I tried more new meds and participated in 2 medication studies which did not help. That was when my neurologist recommended the second op. The first op still did help even though it didn't stop the seizures. When I decided that I was going to go through with the first surgery, my neuro stressed that there is the chance that surgery may not help.  But I would have more of a chance of improvement . I always kept a positive frame of mind by thinking that having the surgery I was giving myself a chance at a better quality of life.
