Does anyone have rapid heartbeats before a seizure??

Tue, 11/15/2005 - 09:33
I am a 26 year old female and have had seizures for the about 6 years now. The cause is unknown. Every month or so I go through "episodes" of rapid heartbeats. After a day or two they stop and don't start again for another month. Other symptoms include A tingling sensation, mood swings, and a really bad taste in my mouth no matter how much listerine I gargle. I don't always go into a seizure that lasts long but I have gone into a grand-mal a couple times. The Dr. I've been seeing doesn't think these episodes are seizure related and prescribed me paxil and then effixer. Neither worked and this Dr. suggested I see a shrink! I am changing to a new Dr. and am willing to have the brain surgery to stop these and have a normal life and eventually have children.

Hi abrannon1227. I read your post, and was glad to read the you had given an update on the testing. I appreciate it when updates are given in threads. I feel not only is that a nice welcoming gesture, and a positive one-they help those reading and following the threads, and posts. I also appreciated that you finally got answers to what had been happening to you. I also echo what you have to say. It's always wise and best to seek another opinion if, and when you are not satisfied with the treatment, or the diagnosis given. Doctors, neurologists, and other specialists in their particular fields while they might try their hardest for their patients, at the end of the day are human, and can get the diagnosis wrong. Patients want answers, especially were symptoms occur that even though presenting as not part of a seizure pattern, can be a challenge. It's so easy for things to get missed, ignored and not treated, or seizures be mistaken for another medical condition such as syncope for example. What should be remembered is: Feelings and emotions are part of everyday life and most people with epilepsy experience emotions just like everyone else? Sometimes, like a number of other medical conditions, epilepsy can create challenges in many aspects of day-to-day living — either short lived or ongoing in nature. Some emotional or behavioural changes that can be associated with epilepsy include: stomach pains, diarrhoea, dry mouth, rapid heartbeat or palpitations, tightness or pain in chest, shortness of breath, dizziness, frequent urination, difficulty swallowing. Psychological symptoms can include: difficulty in sleeping, irritability, inability to concentrate, fear of madness, feeling unreal and not in control of your actions. http://www.epilepsy.org.au/Moods_Behaviour_and_Epilepsy.asp "Many false prophets are gone out into the world." 1 John 4:1

Hi there! I am new at this and thought about your letter. My son is 8.5months old and also has rapid hart rates related to his seizures. Also tasting in his mouth and heavy rapid breathing. What kind of seizure do you have and when did it start and how do you control it now?
