Does anyone have rapid heartbeats before a seizure??

Tue, 11/15/2005 - 09:33
I am a 26 year old female and have had seizures for the about 6 years now. The cause is unknown. Every month or so I go through "episodes" of rapid heartbeats. After a day or two they stop and don't start again for another month. Other symptoms include A tingling sensation, mood swings, and a really bad taste in my mouth no matter how much listerine I gargle. I don't always go into a seizure that lasts long but I have gone into a grand-mal a couple times. The Dr. I've been seeing doesn't think these episodes are seizure related and prescribed me paxil and then effixer. Neither worked and this Dr. suggested I see a shrink! I am changing to a new Dr. and am willing to have the brain surgery to stop these and have a normal life and eventually have children.

It is possible that the mood swings and rapid heartbeat may be caused by hormones. I know you are still young to be going through perimenopause but sometimes the hormones are screwed up a bit. And the tingling is possible from an aura. Are these happening around your menstrual cycle? And do you have any thyroid problems? take care Lisa http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/EpilepsyApproach/

My daughter age 25 has seizures. She goes through these episodes where her legs get very unstable and her whole body wabbles much like someone with MS. She has been tested for it but all tests come up negative. She also has at times rapid and hard heart beats. Sometimes they are so hard I've seen her t-shirt quiver rapidly. I never associated it with the seizure. She has had all kinds of tests for her heart and although the tests show rapid heart beat they say the beats are regular in rythm. Thank you for your comments. I'm going to monitor the rapid heart beat and see if it happens around the time of a seizure. She also has an appointment at UC Davis in Sacramento to get to the bottom of what type of seizures she does have. After reading your comments I'll mention to them about the rapid heart beats and let you know what they say. Thank you so much for sharing. Sonia
