Seizures when sleeping!?

My son is 9 and has absence seizures. He has never had a TC seizure and our neuro said that he could at any time. That spooked my wife and me. He is having seizures frequently right now. He had 7 in a 30min span this morning. We are starting him on a low dosage (300mg a day) on Keppra. We took him off of Lamictal because it wasn't working. My concern is what if he has a TC seizure at night. Would I know? Should I be concerned? What if it last too long?

Hi- My 8 y.o. dd has nocturnal epilepsy, fairly recently diagnosed. We got a monitor for her room so we could see what difference the meds make. It is a wireless video camera (about $40 from amazon) that transmits directly to a receiver plugged into the tv. With picture in picture function we can be watching something else while still keeping an eye on it. we too were afraid it would be too intrusive at her age, but decided it was necessary. It turned out fine. When friends are over they do little plays on it with some kids performing and some watching in the other room. Her friends think it is neat. Only problem was I did get a call from one parent who received a garbled version from her child and thought we had some kind of porn camera set up in our room(lol)Pretty funny actually! Good Luck!

IF ANY SEIZURE LAST MORE THAN FIVE MINUTES OR THE SEIZURES DONT STOP CALL AN ABULANCE OR GET HIM TO A HOSPITAL. Make sure he is on a good diet. Keep him away from aspartame and Monosodium glutamate. Make sure he has plenty of sleep. All will cause seizures. take care lisa http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/epilepsyapproach/
