Nightmares and trouble sleeping

Sat, 04/15/2006 - 08:41
My daughter is 2 1/2 y.o. and is taking Frisium and Lamactal ( I am sure I am spelling that one wrong). Ever since she started taking Lamactal, she has been having a really hard time sleeping. She wakes up about every 20 minutes screaming as if she is having a bad dream. Anyone else having this problem with sleep while taking this drug?

Is lamital anything like phenobarbital? I took pheno from 6months til I think 16years old.But one of its heavy side effects were depression. At one time in the 1980s it was taken off the market for the use of seizures because of its side affects. Terri

Quirky Hi Terrij I have never tried pheno so I cant really say if it's like lamictal or not. But if it causes depression then you are better off without it. Lamictal can work for a lot of people. Can be very effective. I have heard a lot of people who take it are happy with it. I unfortunately was not that lucky so I came off it. But if it doesn't suit you it can cause anxiety and depression. Quirky Hi there, how are you doing with your daughter? Or is that a stupid question? I'm sorry to hear her mood has been horrible lately. But you have to keep in mind, she is only 2 1/2 years old, and if she is not sleeping well, she is going to be cranky, annoyed, frustrated and upset from time to time. If her sleep doesn't improve, then I would suggetc you talk to the doctor. For your daughter's sake as well as yourself. Comfort her when needed, but no need to spoil her or be overprotective. Your daughter will want to be just like any other being and treated the same way, not differently. So only be there when she needs it like when she is upset and needs a hug. I hope her mood changes for the better soon, but if not, I would definitely talk to the doctor if I were you. Maybe the drugs are not for your daughter. It takes time to see if they are right or not unfortunately. I am now off the frisium since last Friday - yahoo! But my body is still adjusting to lower dosage. I see my doctor in May and hopefully things will improve. Keep in touch, Call me anytime, I'm online every so often :) Quirky
