Mom with 7 year old absence seizures- Neurologist not worried

Fri, 09/08/2006 - 22:11
Hi there, I am new to this site and looking for advice. Last year I noticed something wasn't quite right w/my daughter. She was spacing out, wondering through out the house and I was always having to repeat myself to her. I took her to the pediatrician and I was told I was making something out of nothing. Even my husband agreed until he experiened it. He was talking to her and her eyes started to flicker and almost roll back. He wandered in circles for about 15 seconds. I took her back to the pediatrician and she had one in front of him. We were referred to a neurologist and had a EEG done. He said she had a 3:1 brain wave and prescribed Zonegran. He does not seem to be concerned about her seizures and made it seem like it was no big deal. She has been on the meds for 10 months and they seem to be getting worse. She at times has over 10 a day. some worse than others. At times her left arm shakes or she has even fallen if she has one while doing some kind of activity. The only suggestion the Neurologist has is to change her meds but warns they will have severe side effects. He suggests riding them out till she out grows them. Any one have any advice? Am I being paranoid? My husband & I asked about an MRI and he says no need. Thanks, Momyo

Hi Spiz :), Er; I'm just guessing here, but I think the daughter is relatively young as Momyo took her to a 'pediatrician'. IMO you gave Momyo the very best advice possible by suggesting an epileptologist. I'm one who had E since age 3 and went though well over 10 neurologusts before I saw an epileptologist and then became immediately controlled for the very first time. (I didn't know epileptologists existed so didn't demand to see one). Momya, I wish you, and your daughter, the best ~sol
