Learning disabilities

Hi all! Emma-Leigh just turned 3 back in July and I am having such a hard time potty training her. She does not know how to pull down her underwear and she consistantly pees in her panties. I am losing patience now and do not know whether to put the pull ups back on her and wait till she is ready or to continue with this puppy stage of peeing everywhere. The doctor told me that she will have learning difficulties and may have to be placed in a special school. It is now that I see her learning disabilities. She doesn't understand. She has peed in the potty 4 times but will only pee if I put her there. She will not go on her own and two minutes later she pees on the floor! Emma is also on the list for speech therepy. I understand her language but no one else knows what she is saying LOL! Please help me somebody! I am losing my patience and have no idea what to do! :(

I just e-mailed you but I forgot to ask does Emma get scared easily at sounds, lights, and does clothes have to fit just right? We too hate new things and really have to talk it up..we have all the signs of Autism except the social part she is a sweet, loving child but we have some real issues that other children do not even think about. My E will eat but not always we at first thought it was the medicine but now not so much we think she is the same way as you describe Emma because on days that she will eat she is having a really good day..our dr was real concerned because she has not gained any weight in over a year. have you ever heard of the sensory disorder I was talking about..it might be something to check into..it is so closely linked to autism that some Dr.s clasify it as a low form of autism. but our therapy has really helped I hate the 2 hour schedule and smoedays do not have time to do it and on those days I can see a difference in her mood and eating and everything else. just a thought you might want to check out.

WHat is the sensory problem called? Is there an exact name that I can look up on the net? Emma is only sensitive to eating and needs to be in her environment. I haven't noticed anything about clothes. She doesn't seem to care what she wears. Heck she will wear wet panties! HAHAHA!

The name we were given was sensory intergration disorder, there is alot on the net about it. Do not let some of it scare you. Some books you can read about it is "The Out of Sync Child" and "The Out of Sync Child has Fun". When we first got diagnosed and read all I could on the subject it was amazing to sit back and see everything I read fit Emily Klair pretty much right on. Emma may not have it but some of the things you have talked about remind me of Emmy Klair so much. I hope Emma does not have anything else to worry about. The only positive I can say about finding this out is it helped me to understand some of these things that was unexplained, helped me to see how she was seeing the world, so I can help her adjust.
