How do I

Mon, 10/21/2019 - 07:13
My now 17 year old son suffers from Absence seizures and is resistant to all medication. He has at least three seizures per week. At this point we are exploring surgery but we have been told that he will probably never drive and we are wondering how he will ever hold a job. We live in New Jersey and we don't know if he will qualify for any disability programs. Has anyone qualified for any disability programs and if so how did you get started? Thank you.

I believe I got started with everything by applying for medicaid for my girls which then led me to the social security office etc...My adult daughters have absence seizures also. Until a recent EEG We didn't even realize one of theirs was happening hundreds of times a day.One daughter had the VNS surgery last year with great results. She went from having seizures several times a month all day long to having only 3 total seizure days in the last year.My other daughter just had her VNS surgery this past Oct 4th, and she is also on Epidiolex.Of course every treatment option varies from person to person but definitely talk it over with the neurologist.
