Diagnosed sleep disorder and Epi?

Sat, 03/25/2006 - 20:38
My son has sleep issues. He also has a "seizure disorder" that has not yet been dianosed. I am not sure if he has a sleep disorder, sleep seizures (he has other seizures too) or if he's having seizures in his sleep. Anyone else have a child with a diagnosed sleep disorder in conjunction with epilepsy?

My daughter started with a sleep disorder and was having what we thought was fainting spells. She was finally diagnosed with partial seizures and has not had a seizure for awhile. Her sleep disorder has gotten better. In fact she claims it is gone and she is sleeping well. Do you know the connection between sleep disorders and seizures?

Hi there, my five year old son has both absence seizures and partial complex seizures. He also has enormous tonsils which - we believe - are causing obstructive sleep apnea. He is going in for an over night test in April - there is a study underway that is looking at the correlation so we are waiting to have his tonsils out until after the test. There is a lot of research that indicates that seizure disorders are destabilized by sleep apnea. I have found a numebr of studies where up to 30% of respondents become seizure free after having their tonsils removed. There is also a strong link between sleep apnea and ADD.
