Are breakthrough seizures a normal part of epilepsy or is it a sign that the medication is not right? Sheila

I called the neuro yesterday. She is concerned because the types of seizures he is having are new types. We had gone 11 days without one since the last adjustment of his medication, we thought "finally!" Then the bottom fell out when he had a CP that transitioned to a TC. I HATE E! She's upped his med again and wants to follow up next week to see how things are going. She did talk about possible change in medication and then went on to scare the living **** out of me with things like surgery. I was absolutely sick to my stomach after that. She's a good neurologist and I trust her. We live in Houston and have a great children's hospital. She works with them and is also faculty. I haven't overruled a second opinion before surgical intervention. I just pray that it doesn't go that far. Sheila

Developing a tolerance can

Developing a tolerance can be a normal part of E, but is by far most likely if one is controlled via benzodiazepines. http://www.epilepsy.com/articles/ar_1064956631.html Shiela, I had E since I was younger than your son (age 3) and last January went for surgery. In surgery, they discovered a benign, slow growing tumor I'd had since birth. Had I never been controlled prior, I wouldn't have gone for surgery, but I'm glad I did as I now have no tumor and (thus far) have been seizure free for 7.5 months. ~sol

Hi I am 67 yrs old, I was diagnosed with Epilepsy when I was sixteen, It was not controlled for 20 yrs. then it was 100% controlled. About four weeks ago I experienced something I had never experienced before, thr entire right side of my body, I lost control over. It was ot jumping or pulling at the muscles, it was almost like be mucsle free, I could not pick andything up with my right hand and my right foot didn't go where I wanted it to go. This happened twice in the same week and has not happened since. What did I experience, any help would be appreciated. An MRI was taken and they found nothing. Maggie441
