Trileptal and weight gain

Tue, 05/10/2005 - 10:53
I know that Trileptal is not normally related to weight gain, but I swear that it has made me pack on some pounds.  I'm only on 300 mg/day, and I've been on it for only about 3 months.  Before this, I had no problem keeping excess weight off.  But in these three months I've gained about 7 otherwise unexplainable pounds!  Anyone have any experience with this?

Yes!  I'm on trileptal 300 mgs 2x day, and have gained about 15 lbs in 5 months.  I hate it!  I mean, I wasn't in the best shape to begin with, but I never put on this much weight this fast.

Hi,

I'm on Trileptal, 2x a day for 2100 mg, 3 in the morning and 4 in the afternoon.  I gained 10 lbs before but that's it.  No more after 10 lbs, might work diff for each person.  I started exercise regularly and the weight just came off, no prob.

Oh dear, I hate to hear this. I was just put on tileptal by my neuro. He is taking me off Dilantin because of the side effects on my gums -- and possibly my bones. (I'm having a bone density scan next week.) I lost 25 pounds when I was on Zonegran. Hated that med and it never stopped my seizures, but it sure took away that weight (and my appetite). If I had stayed on it another month, I would have been to my goal weight. I know weight loss is not the important thing here, but it was at least one upside to my situation.
