Short Term Memory Loss

Tue, 09/21/2004 - 12:42
I would like to know if there are others who experience short term memory loss. I have been on miscellaneous meds for the past 12 years but currently taking Depakote ER & Tegretol XR.

Hi Guys......Lee here.  It gets worse with age too - and it is NOT gender specific.  Good to hear you guys talking about having the same frustrations us gals do.  It is one thing to get up and go to the kitchen and then not remember what you went there for - and quite another to have someone telling you about something you supposedly said or did that you have no memory of.

I don't seem to have as much problem with the long term memory.  The short term is a bigger problem for me.  I also had a retention problem as a teen and found that taking notes made a huge difference.  I took notes of discussion in class and notes of what I read.  It helped me comprehend and retain what I was hearing and reading much better.  That practice lead to me becoming the recording secretary for several organizations I belonged to.  I heard it, I wrote it and then I had to type it in to completed form......yeah I really remember that stuff.

I have found that journaling has done me a lot of good as well.  I don't just journal how I feel or what I think - I also journal things I want to remember - like the conversation with my grand-daughter about what she wants to be and why.  If I ever forget that coversation - I have that to look back to and hopefully that way this grandma is never too far out of touch!

Yeah - I use seperate journals and keep my personal ones in my bedroom.  But the memory one is kept out in the living room where I can add to it often - and I have been finding hearts and flowers on some of the pages.  I suspect that my daughter or the kids have been "sneaking" peeks and like that I am preserving those memories.

All of you and the opportunities that you have offered me to reply to aspects of the life we have to live has become another form of journal for me.  Thank you for sharing yourselves with me and for allowing me to share myself with you.  We will all get through things one way or another - and not having to do it alone is a wonderful feeling.

I have had epilepsy since I

I have had epilepsy since I was 3.  I'm 40 now.  I've been on Phenobarbital for 35 years now.  Seizure free since Oct 1999.  I've noticed that I'm having short term memory loss more and more.  Should I be worried about it?  Also I've noticed my staring is increasing as well.  Please advise.
