seizures and short term memory loss

Mon, 02/13/2006 - 16:58
I may not have epilepsy, however one specialist that I did see said he had no doubts that I do, this was based on how my boyfriend described all 4 different types of seizure that he has seen thus far. I have had 5 head injuries from having seizures at the wrong time in the wrong place of my traylor. From these head injuries I now deal with short term memory loss. I have not been able to fully accept my disability yet so adding the memory loss has been very difficult for me. I rely on my daughter and boyfriend for any memory of the past three years of my life. I remember little about my high school days and even regarding past relationships. The memory loss has been one of my largest hurdels when it comes to my studies but I am determined too finish something I have wanted all my life. I always say, It's better to try then not to try at all. There are days when things overwelm me and all I want to do is hide from the world, other days I just lay in bed all day wanting too just give up. Yet the next day rolls around and somewhere somehow I find more strength to battle yet anither day in a life I don't feel comfertable with. May God bless you all, Joyce

Hi Everyone, Joyce, I think we chatted in the chat room last night but I too suffer from memory loss. I'm 27 and I had surgery 5 years ago and they removed my temporal lobe and I swear my memory is getting a little worse. IT is so frustrating becuase I don't remember anything over a year ago and my short term is even worse. My friends sometimes think I'm wierd when I keep asking things and my husband usually makes a joke out of it. BUt I sometimes get really nervous. If our memory is like this now, what is it going to be like when we are old!

Which temporal lobe was removed and do you have trouble remembering things from, say, a day or two ago? I had a right temporal lobectomy just about 3 years ago and am dating someone who is suspicious that I'm hiding things because I sometimes have to answer I don't know to questions about what I did a couple of days ago.

Joyce I understand 100% how you feel. I am 32 going on 33 soon and I have little to no memory of my highschool days. The only memories that I have of Junior high and elementary are all blurry. I have looked over many annuals for some kind of information about these times, but nothing has helped. I would love to say that it will change someday. When that day comes, I will be with our heavenly father and his son Jesus....
