The Scandal of Aspartame

Thu, 11/26/2009 - 10:38

You probably already know that aspartame is a no-no. But just in case you weren’t sure why, here are the reasons and the scandal…

For 16 years, the FDA refused to approve aspartame. In fact, the FDA’s own toxicologist told Congress that: “Without a shadow of a doubt, aspartame can cause brain tumors and brain cancer and violated the Delaney Amendment, which forbids putting anything in food that is known to cause cancer.” — FDA Toxicologist, Dr. Adrian Gross

It was finally accepted (for political reasons that are too scandalous to write about here) and here are the results:

For starters, medical authorities estimate that aspartame has brought more complaints to the FDA than any other additive. Specifically, over the years, various reports have implicated aspartame in headaches, memory loss, seizures, vision loss, coma, and cancer. It also appears to worsen or mimic the symptoms of such conditions as fibromyalgia, MS, lupus, ADD, diabetes, Alzheimer’s, chronic fatigue, and depression…

In fact, aspartame is responsible for 75 percent of such complaints to that agency. And, after receiving some 10,000 consumer complaints, the FDA compiled a list of 92 symptoms linked to aspartame — including death.

WHY? Because aspartame attacks your body at the cellular level so it can negate all kinds of medications Americans take, including antidepressants, Coumadin, cardiac drugs, hormones, insulin, vaccines, and many others.

In short, it is a deadly neurotoxic drug masquerading as a harmless additive.

You are absolutley right.  I asked my epileptologist about aspartame.  He mentioned that we would have to drink 500 Diet Cokes/day in order to cause a seizure!  He assured me that Aspartame is harmless when used in normal amounts, even excessive; just not 500/day.

I experienced nocturnal tonic-clonic seizures for almost 9 years. My medications were of no help. I took it into my own hands to learn what was causing my brain to fry. In 1999, I came across a 1972 UW-Madison study of aspartame and monkeys, where all the monkeys had seizures, and one died. I immediately eliminated Nutrasweet from my diet. I have been seizure-free for 11 years now! Since then, I have studied chemistry, organic chemistry, biochemistry, and molecular biochemistry. I am now fascinated by neurological electrochemistry and am studying for my RPSGT certification ... with the help of my RPSGT certified girlfriend! Seizures, and all recorded brain activity, are initiated/regulated by the glutamate/GABA receptors. Glutamate is the uptick on the EEG sinewave, and GABA is the downtick. Two non-essential amino acids, glutamate & aspartate, are known as "excitotoxins" or EAATs (Excitatory amino-acid transporters). Aspartame (Nutrasweet) and MSG (Mono Sodium Glutamate) are in a dizzying array of food products. MSG is responsible for the "savory" taste in most foods! MSG has disguised labels: Autolyzed yeast Calcium caseinate Gelatin Glutamate Glutamic acid Hydrolyzed protein Monopotassium glutamate Monosodium glutamate Sodium caseinate Textured protein Yeast extract Yeast food Yeast Nutrient Bouillon Broth Carrageenan Enzyme-modified substances Flavoring Flavors Malt Extract Malt flavoring Maltodextrin Natural flavor/flavorings Natural pork/beef/chicken flavoring Pectin Protein-fortified substances Seasonings Soy protein Soy protein isolate or concentrate Soy sauce Soy sauce extract Stock Vegetable gum Whey protein Whey protein isolate or concentrate Eliminate these food additives from your diet, and you will most likely be seizure-free like me!!! I have found it easier to just rely on the USDA Organic label so I don't have to read every friggen label. In addition, there are some special foods that help inhibit/regulate excitotoxins: GABA tea and sprouted brown rice (GBR). If your neurologist can't explain what "excitotoxins" are and what foods to avoid, you need to find a new doctor. Cheers, Timothy Pratte

I have always watched my diet and because of epilepsy and because of other conditions I have, also because I am more supseptible then the avervage person to certain conditions (like diabetieis) It runs in both sides of my family, but I am not going to cut all of these things out of my diet (such as flavors) If I do I hardly put any any seasoning on my food. But to cut all of these out. NO.
