Searching for a Diagnosis

Tue, 12/26/2017 - 13:51
Hello, I am 31 years old and just had my first seizure, ever, when my daughter (2nd child) was about 3-4 months old. I have no history of seizures. I'm working with a neurologist and a GI doctor (I have GI issues going on around this same time) and cannot find a diagnosis. I've had 4 MRI's (all only of the head) and tons of blood work. The only abnormality found was low potassium when I was in the ER for my first seizure. Does anyone have any insight? I'm not satisfied with not having a cause for an onset of seizures at 31 years old and I requested a spinal MRI, but my neurologist doesn't think it would be helpful. I also have extreme fatigue, joint pain, and irritability when I don't chug water and Gatorade daily. This may not be related, but wanted to see if anyone else could identify. Thanks!

I didn’t provide a lot of

I didn’t provide a lot of info in my original post for fear no one would read the entire thing, as it’s lengthy. I have not seen any of the MRI’s but would like to and would like copies. I’m asking because it has not been a one time thing. I’ve not been able to drive for three months because I’ve just now gone a total of 3 days without one. I was having sometimes multiple episodes a day and even had one in front of my neurologist, in his office. He has said numerous times that he believes they’re simple seizures due to how they present (I remain conscious and remember everything even with I cannot talk or have paralysis). My MRI’s all returned normal, but he mentioned it’s possible to have microscopic scar tissue. I’m not sure what would cause that and why now? I have two young children and the onset of these seizures is greatly impacting my daily life, including not driving and I had to quit my job. I’m definitely not satisfied with “I don’t know what’s causing them.” That’s just my nature though as I’m a control freak, haha .

If they began after childbirth, it may be hormonal changes, levels of estrogen/progesterine can trigger seizures.
