I'm new and need some direction ..

Hello All, Long story short - I have been diagnosed with Panic Disorder, Agoraphobia and Dissociative disorder for around 7 years. At the beginning of the year I had a seizure and some tests where run. EEG came back with irregular results (apparently very similar to someone who has Epilepsy). I don't think the Neurologist I am seeing is very good, as he has completely dismissed my results having anything to do with a misdiagnosis of the Dissociative disorders. From what I have since read I have reason to believe I might have some form of Temporal Lobe Epilepsy as the symptoms are SO close, and there is the evidence from the EEG. I'm going to see a new Neurologist next week, and I am very excited to hopefully receive some proper treatment. As I do feel I am heading in the right direction .. finally! Has anyone been in the same situation as me? With my symptoms and EEG results, I'm not out of my league to suspect such a diagnosis? I would love to hear from anyone that had some advise or words or wisdom regarding my situation. Ta.

So in essense, many people with epilepsy that go for the 3 or 4 day EEG may not have a seizure and thus not diagnosed with E?

A typical EEG takes little

A typical EEG takes little more than an hour or so. In a regular EEG one goes to the EEG room in a hospital while on AEDs, as they are an 'outpatient'. (And, that is what they appear to be referring to in the above quote since the chance of seizure activity being missed is best with restricted time) Logic would suggest that with a video EEG (VEEG) chances of seizures would be far greater given the time extention & no meds. I had my first VEEG last year. I was taken off all AEDs, deprived of sleep and had lights flashed at me while in the seizure unit of the hospital for 5 days. Suffice it to say it worked. ~sol

I agree. I went for 11 years before I was diagnosed. Because I would be scheduled ahead of time for the EEG, even the EEGs that I would wear them home for 3 days, nothing would show up and everything appeared normal because I wasn't having seizures at the time. When I went in for my first VEEG in May of this year, they reduced my AED's by half and put me on the sleep deprivation and needless to say, it worked for me also. By the 3rd day, I was already up to my 5th seizure. By the way sol, I found out last Friday that they are going to be able to do the surgery and I am just waiting to hear from the neurosurgeon as to when he wants to schedule the WADA and the surgery itself. I believe they are planning on it being done one right after the other instead of on two seperate hospital visits. Dawn ;-)
