Magnesium Deficiency
Sun, 03/13/2005 - 15:35Have any of you tried magnesium supplements and found them to be helpful? I have been doing some research and come across a theory that many people with epilepsy are magnesium-deficient. I realized that I have not had a seizure for 9 months, and I have been taking Rolaids for the past year. I have been taking them for the calcium content, but they also contain magnesium. Any thought on this?
Blessings,
Angie

I put my dog that has seizures on Magnesium also. Magnesium is essential for regulating other very important minerals in the body such as copper that regulates and processes iron & calcium so without enough of it copper is bound so no matter how much calcium and iron you have in your body it can not utilize it. Magnesium also travels through our lymphatic system so it doesn't show up in blood tests as deficient even though you may be. I would not recommend magnesium citrate as it affects Ceruloplasmin in the liver which binds copper and can lead to an abundance of iron in the body. Magnesium threonate is great for mental function, Magnesium glycinate will help for calming anxiety and helping sleep and magnesium orotate is great over all. magnesium oxide is ok but needs to be taken frequently. I hope that helps someone because that is all I have learned so far.
