Abnormal EEG but no symptoms

Hi, I'm new to this and wanted to see if someone had a similar experience. My 5 year old has been having different test because of his speech delay and some sensory issues. He recently had an EEG where it came out with lots of spikes, the neurologist asked if he had convulsions because hes presenting epileptic type waves on his test. We have never seen anything like that with our son so she sends him for an MRI. The results came back normal. Now we have to observe if something happens because she can't diagnose him since there is no physical evidence. She recommended a 24 hr EEG. I'm so confused, has anyone know about a similar case? What about the outcome? We just want to help our son. Thanks!

So there are people without

So there are people without epilepsy that have epileptiform abnormalities on EEGs, but it is supposed to be rare (according to Handbook of EEG Interpretation, my husband has a hard time believing this is significant so I try to understand this stuff better but can't scratch past the surface). Depending on what they saw and where, the correlation is stronger/weaker. Some seizures are not apparent to someone observing, my daughter started reporting things that I explained away a few months before she turned six.. turns out they were simple partials. Longer/additional EEGs increase the chance they see something helpful.
