Hello

Sat, 09/15/2018 - 02:28
Hello! My name is Amy. I'm 22 years old, and have never been technologically-inclined. My baby sister (though being 16 makes her "not a baby") encouraged me to post on this blog. I was diagnosed with Epilepsy two days ago. I've had seizures on and off for the past couple of years, and my Mom finally checked me into a hospital to be monitored on an EEG this past week. My neurologist was able to determine that the majority of my seizures happen in my sleep, but I absolutely do have Epilepsy. While my family is loving and supportive, I feel like it'd be helpful to hear others' experiences in regard to this. I graduated from University of Oregon this past Spring and planned to teach English in Thailand this Fall. As you can imagine, those plans have been put on hold. I'm feeling very lost and I would love to talk to anyone who is willing, or is in a similar situation. I feel like my entire life-path has changed; Epilepsy has already kept me from going to teach and from having a job that could help me save up to travel. I look forward to reading about and hearing others' experiences.

ALSO I've been told 2309539 times that God only gives you what you can handle, and that people are there to support and pray for me. I was raised in a Christian household, but I do not care for religion. I'm really hoping to find someone or some people that have dealt with or are dealing with the same things. Thank you for reading this, if you've gotten this far!

Religion is one thing and

Religion is one thing and being a Christian is another.  There have been times I questioned the preachers because they bring out  verse and tell you what it means. Yet there is writing in the chapter above and below that verse. So taking something out of context means that they are preaching for or against one thing when the chapter has many things it is telling someone.  If I was in a church and said Jesus was a Jew. BOY would I be looked at and their remark would be He is not he was a Christian. Which goes to show you that they do not know that a Christian is a follower of Christ.

Joe, thank you so much for

Joe, thank you so much for your feedback. I really do appreciate it. I've been put on three different anti-seizure medications for the time being. Within a few months I should be down to one lifelong medication. I will be sure to space out the timing really well (something my neurologist did not emphasize, so thank you). I had a really hard time understanding exactly how they could determine that they were epileptic seizures and not from another source such as stress, etc. Because of the way it was explained, it seems that I've been having seizures in my sleep since I was about 13 years old. I haven't had grand mal seizures (as far as we know, as I'm entirely unaware when I do have one) in the past other than two that were witnessed about three years ago. My doctors chalked those up to a medication I was on for anxiety, as none were witnessed after the medication was out of my system. Grand mal seizures while I am awake just recently began occurring regularly, and my neurologist believes that's because of the amount of extreme stress I've been under the past several months for unrelated reasons.I will be sure to ask more questions and get a better understanding. Honestly, I know nothing about Epilepsy, so the next few days will be all about researching the diagnosis and finding what I can on my own and through these forums.Again, I really, really appreciate your response and all of the information you provided. I am so glad to hear that you've found successful ways to manage it.Best,Amy
