My 3 year old daughter

Fri, 10/26/2018 - 12:17
Hello, My daughter has intractable epilepsy. She is currently on Vimpat, Felbamate, Phenobarbital, and Clonazepam. We have noticed after felbamate she is very hyperactive, and does not focus. Her teachers at school tell us the same, she doesn't focus and doesn't listen after she gets her medicine. Is this common? Any tips to help with this? I try not to get upset because i know it's the medicine but it's draining when its frequent. Also, do these medications change facial features? My husband and I both have noticed that my daughters facial expressions have changed quite a bit since she got diagnosed and started all these medications. She has only had epilepsy for 6 months so it's still new to us. She has been seizure free for a few months now, thank god. Sometimes I just sit and think and am still so sad that our daughter is going through this. I can't imagine taking so much medication and my 3 year old daughter takes so much. I feel so horrible, she tells me it tastes so bad. I don't know how she really feels inside when she takes these medications. I feel like we've been handling this very well considering the circumstances, but it still breaks my heart. I know she's still my sweet little girl, but I just wish we didn't have to worry about seizures at all. We had to take her out of dance class, which she loved, because she is unable to focus and pay attention to the instructors. I guess I just need reassurance. Thanks in advance.

Talk to your child's

Talk to your child's neurologist about mitigating the impacts of medication - it could be that sdjusting the time it's given, adding certain supplements or giving slightly different doses at the different times could help - some medications are fussier about things so make sure you are giving them at the right intervals - usually  every 12 hours for twice a day medication.

Thank you. Yes I talked to her doctor and they tell me its "just her personality" which I dont believe since it's always after her medication.

Bless you.   http:/
