Lamictal rash? (posted on meds forum too)

Sun, 04/09/2006 - 18:54
My 2 y.o. son is on lamicatal--just started a month ago and we are in the slow ramp-up phase. My son is now on 10mg/day (he only weighs 26 pounds) and we are increasing 5mg per two weeks until we hit 50mg. He seems to be responding very well but has just in the past couple of days developed some red raised bumps on his face and tonight another one, almost blister like, appeared on his collar bone. I don't think it's anything like chicken pox or fifth disease but can't rule those out yet, either. I was just wondering if anyone had personal experience (either yourself or your child perhaps) with developing the rash that can be one of the side effects of the lamictal. I would have thought it would start right away but the pharmacist says it could take a little while. Appreciate any feedback, thanks.-- Niksmom

I am also watching out for that horrible rash so please let me know if anything further developes with your little one so I know what to look out for. You can email me at Tamaracanadian@hotmail.com if you want to talk further since our children are so close in age :)

My son had a terrible reaction to Lamictal. He was covered in red raised bumps from head to toe. The doctors weren't sure if it was a reaction or Fifth's disease. He didn't take any Lamictal until the rash disappeared & when we reintroduced the Lamictal, the rash came right back. Also, he had been on Lamictal for about a month before he had a reaction. It happened soon after his dosage was increased.
