Help, are these seizures?

Mon, 04/10/2006 - 01:29
My daughter is having these episodes where she shakes uncontrollably. the shaking is sort of like a tremor. It usually begins in her legs then travels up her body to her head and affects her jaw. It will then reverse and travel back down. During these she feels "funny" in her stomach and chest, gets hot and sweaty, and itchy all over. She also get weak, dizzy and headachy. Her vision gets distorted, she basically says things look "funny". This all sounds similar to simple partial seizures from what i've read. However I've read seizures last less than 2 minutes. These episodes for my daughter last 7 to 9 minutes each, and sometimes occurr 2 times to 4 times in a row. after they are over she has a headache and feels weak. She never losses consciousness. She also seems to get vague smaller portions of these same symptoms.can these be seizures? something else?

She needs to be evaluated for seizures! A ped neuro is the best bet, but often a ped can also order some preliminary testing like EEG. If these are seizures they are long and she is clustering (having several in a row)..... My son has always had long simple partials, lasting 20 min to 2 hours. Hoping you can get clear answers sooon.

Thanks for your responses.

Thanks for your responses. We've already seen her ped and she had an eeg today. Just wanted reassurance that we are right to be concerned about these symptoms. Her ped is leaning towards anxiety and taught her relaxation breathing. My daughter was offended by this and I'm not sure I agree. Once again thanks for your help and I hope all is well with both of you and your children.
