What in your house can cause seizures? Me & my dog both have seizures!

Fri, 08/06/2010 - 17:38

Ok, here's a good one... I have had epilepsey for 5 years.  It started when I was 23 years old shortly after I moved in with a man who is now my husband, we still live in the same house.  Top neurologists and neuroseurgons have never found a cause for it, no head trauma, no excessive illness, no tumor; but my seizures do always originate from the same place in my LTL.  I'm just one of those "don't know why it started" people.  And I have had EVERY test in the book, gone to one of the top epilepsy centers, and even tried to have a LTL resection, but couldn't complete it because the focus of my seizures is too imbedded into my language center.

Anyway, I just watched my 4 year old beagle (dog) Roxy have a seizure, it was like she was really confused then started shaking and stiffened up.  It looked like a complex partial then generalized into a grand mal.  It was terrifying, now I know how my husband and other loved ones feel when they see me have one.  My husband has seen her have a couple and I have seen her have a smaller one before.  We didn't think too much of it because the vet said that dogs, especially smaller ones can occasionally have seizures for no reason.  But now I'm thinking is this house trying to kill us???  Yes, I know it sounds crazy! I was just wondering is there any signifigant common thing in a house such as mold that can cause seizures & epilepsy and how do you test for it?  Any input would be great, thanks!

what r the chances I meet someone else with this situation?.my dog and I also have seizures! She is also a toy breed.. the dogs were caused by a heart problem. They stopped with medication but still rarely occur only if she is caught off guard or spooked badily. Vet says dogs can have a seizure due to any change in environment. Dogs can also have epilepsy. As for me; I just found out I am also experiencing seizures! I believe its only a coincidence that we have similar health problems as are pets. I definitly feel even more connected with her these days as we spaz out together! Lol

I saw your posting on you and your dog both having seizures. I myself used to have epilepsy as a child and I had a dog as a young girl and when I stopped having seizures at the age of 14 my dog that I had at the time developed and was diagnosed with epilepsy. Since then, I have had two other dogs in my life that I have been really close with also develop epilepsy. Then I took my 2 year old puggle to the vet this morning becuase he also had a seizure the other night and he has also been diagnosed with epilepsy. I am just wondering if anyone has heard of dogs getting epilepsy from their owners, or in a way might be keeping me from developing seizures again?? Any suggestions???

Ohhh! Spooky ...

Here is something random I will put out for you .. diet?

I feel much much much worse if my diet is bad. And I will have more activity, be mainly simple partials - if my diet it bad.

We found out I have two genes linked to Celiac disease. I also have migraine varients (were aren't sure at this stage where Migraine Varients stops and starts and where TLE stops and starts). But I don't actually have active Celiac disease.

Celiac is linked to migraine, and migraine is linked to TLE. There definatly are ties, but not massive ties.

So if Im not eating properly, Im not going to be feeling good.

Just 'food' for thought! Literally!

BTW - My activity is in my left temporal lobe to .. so we should possibly become bestfriends. HAHA! Ahhhh ..
