New book~Pynchon's "Against the Day"

Wed, 12/27/2006 - 16:59
has anyone ever read other novels by Thomas Pynchon? Like "V", "Gravity's Rainbow" . It is classified under SCi-fi /FAntasy genre, I want to buy it but it's expensive, I was hoping if someone here could tell me how this author is?

Pynchon is one of the best living writers - a reclusive, mysterious figure. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thomas_Pynchon His work is difficult, but rewarding. Reading him is a challenge - an active engagement rather than passive entertainment. I feel there is a significant pay off for the effort. I haven't read Against the Day, but I bought it and it's on my to-do list. By all means, I would encourage you to read him, but go in knowing it's not breezy material. Go for it. Mark

Pam, My advice seems contradicted by the 'advice to newbies' handed out by Pynchon's website- http://www.hyperarts.com/pynchon/newbies.html I started Against the Day and I'm enjoying it very much. I guess that's the key to it all - buckle the seat belt, dig in and enjoy the ride. Go for it. Mark
