Talking with my roommate

Wed, 07/09/2014 - 14:26

I'm beginning a new chapter in my life as I transfer from my community college to my four-year. I have absence seizures, meaning they are mostly controlled by medicine. I'm not terribly concerned that my diagnosis will prove to be too much of a challenge when I go off to school. However, there are lots if misconceptions and stereotypes of what seizures are and what they are not. I haven't met my roommate yet. I'm not worried about discussing this with her, I just don't want her to have false pretenses about my condition before we have even met.

I talked to my roommate my freshman year. I just told her that I have epilepsy. If she sees anything strange, I'm probably having a seizure and all she can do is call 911. I had one large seizure and it didn't change anything. She was very understanding so, I wouldn't worry about your roommate.
