Seizures and exams

Wed, 05/02/2018 - 08:16
I’m in my first year of university (college) studying nursing and I have 2 exams coming up so I have started revising for it. There are around 10 parts to it and I’m just starting to look at the first one and there is so much to learn. I am so worried about how I am going to remember it all as my medication and seizures affect my memory and I’m scared the stress is going to bring on lots of seizures making my memory worse. It’s giving me bad anxiety and I’m not sure how to cope.

Do you get extra time? Or do

Do you get extra time? Or do you go to a different place to take your tests? I think if you don't have those two things in place you should go and talk to the disability service counselor and get that set up I have both of them and it really helps with not having so much stress about talking tests and having to worry about a time period that I have to be done with the tests.

Also, talk to your professor.

Also, talk to your professor.  Mine was unbelievably supportive in helping provide me with nearly everything I needed to take exams, mid-terms and finals in a calm, peaceful and relaxing atmosphere, free from distractions or anything that would trigger a seizure or increase anxiety. One of my triggers (as crazy as this sounds) is flourescent lighting. It also triggers my migraines. My professor would allow me to take my exams in a room that had either natural lighting or non-flourescent lightening to avoid any problems...she was absolutely wonderful.Don't be afraid or hesitent to speak-up and ask for what you need...they can only say "No".  And, we have all been told that before and kept on moving on...Good Luck Future Nurse!
