First seizure?

Tue, 05/11/2010 - 01:54

Hi everyone.

I think I had a seizure on Sunday morning. Background info: I'm 17, recently stopped antidepressants (without doctor's opinion because she's a moron and I really can't be bothered with her) and I have an eating disorder.

I'm not quite sure if it was a seizure (or maybe I'm just trying to tell myself that it wasn't) or what caused it. I had eaten just before and it had been over a week of stopping the antidepressant, Citalopram (no noticed withdrawal effects). I got up from the sofa to let the cat in and my vision went black before I had a chance to even let go of the door handle. My stomach kind of started tensing and relaxing quite quickly. I remember hitting my head on the door handle as I tried to get myself balanced. When my vision came back I was crouched on the floor, leaning back against the patio doors.

I haven't told anyone because I don't want them to worry if it turns out to be nothing... And I guess not telling anyone makes it less real. I'm just really worried that it'll happen again (especially at school). And with exams coming up very soon, I'm even more scared than I think I'd usually be.

Any advice would be REALLY appreciated.

It's my normal GP. I'm already seeing a counsellor for cutting, depression and my eating but my parents have no idea there is anything up with me (which makes it all the more complicated). I might have words with a teacher tomorrow who knows about most of the other stuff and see what she thinks (she has a PHD in Psychology so knows quite abit about this sort of thing). Hopefully this was the only experience of this type I'll have to suffer. Thank you for your comment. Will take the advice of keeping a diary about my intake and stuff like that.

Which is the one you hate -- your counsellor or your GP?  Why don't you ask this teacher that you like (and sounds GREAT) for some doc suggestions?  If you know her and trust her and she knows you, she's in a good position to recommend what is best for you.

As for the parent thing, sigh, I understand.  I've been there.  But you DO need some sort of support.  (My parents were HORRIBLE.  They wouldn't even say the "E" word.  They were in complete denial, told me I'd never amount to much and treated me like damaged goods.)  Hang in there and email me if you'd like.  (It's in my profile.)      Phylis Feiner Johnson  www.epilepsytalk.com

It's the GP that I hate.
I told my best friend about it all last night and he was great as usual (which just makes telling him things even harder to be honest - feel like I'm putting way too much pressure on him). I'm going to talk to my teacher today. Hopefully she'll be able to tell me more about what's going on.
And thanks for the other to e-mail - I might take it up some time in the future :)
