Brain surgery

Wed, 06/07/2017 - 08:08
So I'm about to get this double brain surgery which is when they put grids on my brain in the first one and make me seize with it on and then find the spot they want to take out and take them off in the second surgery. What's going to happen to me? I'm sure many of you have had this surgery before.

I've had seizures since I was

I've had seizures since I was 6 and I'm currently 33. I had the surgery on my temporal lobe to insert the EEG and had to sit in monitoring for 7 days. The 24 hours after each surgery (insert and removal of the EEG), you have to spend in ICU. I have to say that this was the most painful experience I've ever had, and the recovery is long (at least for me), almost 1 year of on and off pain in that area. I had it on my left side. The laser surgery was 4 months afterwards. This was all in October 2013 then Feb 2014. Since then, I've had just 1 seizure and it was because I had food poisoning and was out in the sun for hours. My neurologist advised that although I'm seizure free and had this surgery, I might still be susceptible to having them if my immune system isn't functioning properly. But other than that, I've been good since. If your seizures are localized, coming from the same place in the brain, the laser surgery is a good option. Otherwise, I'm not sure what other options you have. The temporal lobectomy is very painful but you have an answer afterwards, and it's an experience that no one can take from you.

You are very brave!  Have you
