Reflex Epilepsy from Heat!

Wed, 01/31/2018 - 01:15
Hello Everyone! My name is Mike! I've had Epilepsy for about 23 years now, since I was 10 and a half years old. We don't completely know what caused me to have seizures but we have a clue that a 106 degree fever a month before I had my first known seizure which was during Spring Break when I was in the 6th grade. I was as healthy as can be, playing on a baseball for 5 years and a football team for 2 years and then was assistant manager on the team after I started having Epilepsy. Also played in the band until I had to quit because I was always passing out while playing the Tenor Saxophone. But it was up til about a year ago I and after going to more neurologists than I can count, I realized that I have seizures mostly because of getting overheated. Every now and then I'll have one by getting excited. When I played football and baseball I would pass out on the pitchers mound a good bit later in the game if we played long games and I played multiple positions in pee-wee football which were Tight-end and kicker. While during practice I would usually have more seizures there because I would play as a linebacker but I wasn't the biggest and fastest one at the time. I also played street hockey and street basketball but hardly ever had seizures playing those sports. I grew up not only with Epilepsy but with PTSD, panic attacks and being abused in 3 ways and several other things. But does anyone else have seizures from being overheated from being around heat to long? I.E. Take a very hot shower, being in the sun, being overworked, being around hot food too long, like I do? I've lived through 2 SUDEP situations already.

I live in a cold and a hot place which is Memphis in a way. It can be single digits he and it can be in the triple digits here. And when I work, I work in the ER, I have to hundreds of pounds a day and I do all this stuff as a volunteer for the hospital.  But its fun though which is transport, restock and much more for the last 12 years. Memphis is a city that does'n t really care about people who have seizures. I've been here for 23. My mom and me are trying to start a Epilepsy walk and Epilepsy Support Group. But when I work in the ER I usually get overheated not to mention also picking up the hundreds of pound of lenin in the ER which is around 300-400pds. :-)
