Partial Complex Seizure with Aggression in NonVerbal Autism

Sat, 11/17/2018 - 10:47
I was wondering if any other parent/caregiver has been dealing with a child on the autism spectrum who is having aggression associated with their child's seizures. We have hit puberty, and his seizures increased. 5 years ago when he was diagnosed, his complex partial seizures most obvious symptoms were aggression. This has returned along with occasional mania/aggression. His personality takes a 180 from one day to the next. He was taking just Depakote but they just added Trilepatol. I guess we are just trying to find some insight on how to best handle all this, and if certain therapeutic protocol worked for them. He has only had the added medicine for a week, and we have to give it some time. Just hard. He used to be able to go everywhere, but now it is really hard to go out with him. Advice?

traceyjt67 Oh my gosh Tracey we are going thru the same thing!  We used to go anywhere but he's become unpredictable.  He had his first seizure 2 1/2 years ago and he's on his 5 & 6 drug and then there are the meds for the side effects.  We've dealt with meltdowns and aggression in a kid that never ever had that problem!  He's also developed OCD type stuff, tics, stuck behavior, moodiness, school anxiety, sleep problems etc.  This is sooooo very hard.  Many times I don't know how to get thru the day.  He is 17 years old on the spectrum with limited speech.  He's a kid who never needed medication and I look at him now and I can't believe what's happened.  Love to chat some more.  I'm sorry this is happening to both of us but there is some comfort knowing others are on the same journey.  Write again if you can.
