Lost

Fri, 05/30/2014 - 15:01

My 3 year old recently started having seizures 3 months ago. I wad advised that it was a febrile seizure and it shouldn't happen again, even at my insistence that something was of with my little one. Three weeks ago another seizure landed us in the hospital. They did an outpatient EEG. Si Was arriving home from the appointment the neurologist office called and said they are moving her follow up appointment to three weeks sooner because she is concerned with the results. I was prescribed diastat suppositories. I am lost and was hoping that someone might offer me some words of wisdom as this is all very new to me. I've noticed am extreme change in Keegan's personality. My normally bright and cheery daughter is having some problems with raging out (there is no other way to describe it) and I'm at a loss as to how to deal with it or even what is causing it. Someone please help.

I am sorry for what is

I am sorry for what is happening. If they are "concerned" about the results, then ask what those results are while you wait. Ask for a copy of the EEG and read it, they are YOUR results after all, it is your right to get a copy, however complex the lingo is, the reading at the end will tell you what it is.About the behavioral changes, that could be either side effects of the seizures or the onset of a psychiatrc condition (unlikely). If it is a side effect of the seizures is because seizures will WIPE YOU OUT and kids become very very cranky, fatigued and unmotivated. Sometimes after seizures (post ictal state), patients become confused, some others become angry, others become lethargic, mumble words and make no sense until they "come back". I am assuming that the EEG is positive. What an EEG is , is the measure of electrical brain actvity. If there are spikes,i t is positive, so it is a yes or not question, and where it comes from. After that an MRI is orederd, so don't be scared, that is pretty standard for a new patient to rule out causes. good luck
