SEIZURE, AND WAKING UP TO DISCOVER I HAVE VOMITED - EDITED SEPTEMBER 25, 2011

Sun, 09/18/2011 - 21:50

In addition to below:  My other seizures last only a few minutes from beginning to being concious again.  I wonder why I did not wake up for about one hour?  Any suggestions?

Also, once a had two seizures in a row but I was not drinking acohol.  Is this considered a medical emergency?

I have learned that I should not drink alcohol.

I drank too much for three consecutive nights, and then stopped.  Two evenings after I stopped drinking I believe that I had a seizure because I woke up about one hour later, and had vomited but do not know if I did so during or after the seizure.  However, I did not feel nauseous so I cannot contribute this to drinking too much.  Also, I did not get so drunk to make me pass out, I was only a little "tipsy."

In the little over a year that I have been taking valproic acid, my seizures have been fully controlled so I assume it is the alchohol withdrawal that caused my seizure? Also, I did not know that one could vomit during or after a seizure.

Does anyone know about vomiting during a seizure?   What kind of seizure could cause this?  Before I began on medication I had grand mals.

I drink even 2 drinks I get soooo tired I think that could contribute to having seizures not the withdraw of alcohol unless you drink all time constantly all day . Sometimes you don't realize you maybe tired if you drink a few and feel in a party mode and feel happy a lil tipsy and hyper for the moment but then you crash by the end of the night and want to sleep . You may have passed out and vomited while trying to sleep or had smaller seizure without tongue / cheek biting . I wouldn't risk all that binge drinking its not good for people not on strong medications let alone mix meds with alcohol . If you must drink try limit your self to two drinks in tall glasses with lots of pop to make it last longer while your sipping and don't do it all weekend and wear your self out and no driving for sure even if you feel well.

I always vomit with my seizures and it's always at around 3 - 4 am as I have night time e.  Mine is very violent vomiting and extremely painful that I go dizzy, not nice, I would guess that if you were only tipsy I'd put it down to your e. Hope that helps x

Hi Ma Wen - Hope all is ok with you- I suffer Sz types right across the board & with a PS I can be sick but there is always that nauseus feeling, whether or not I vomit. With major GMs (about 2-4 pm) I invariably have projectile vomiting (really projectile!!) but as I'm usually unconscious @ this stage I'm unaware of any of this! As for the drink I've never liked the taste of the stuff anyway (hell of an admission for an Irishman!) - One pint of Guiness & I'm anybody's; Two pints & nobody wants me!! Take care J.
