Does the likelihood of having another seizure decrease overtime? How do you live with the uncertainty?
Mon, 10/24/2011 - 21:32I had my first seizure was in Beijing where my wife is from January 2010. I did not recognize it as a seizure, and thought that it was an anomaly so I did not see a doctor. Later I had one more when I fell on the street right on my nose. I went to hospital for stitches but the doctor did not run any tests. The most worriesome experience was a seizure that occurred when I hit my head, was in a coma for three days, and in hospital for one month. I almost died.
1. My seizures have been fully controlled since the beginning of medication with three exceptions - I cut medicine in half as no one told me why I was taking it, I forget to take it for one or two days, and I got typsy on the third occasion. Anyway, what are the chances of me having another seizure? Does the likelihood decrease as time passes without a seizure? ( My naturopathic doctor says yes). I ask this question because I have read that some people do not respond well to medication while I have so far while I do. What do you think?
2. How do you live with the uncertainty that come with epilepsy - particulary the knowledge that one could die?
3. Has anyone had any success with altenative medicine...cod liver oil, homeopathic, herbs etc?
