Unsure if it is a seizure or somethinge else

Sun, 08/05/2018 - 19:48
I am not looking for a diagnosis but maybe someone who had similar or knows what I am talking about could help me out so I know how to bring it to my Doctor. I get these (we will call them spells for now) about 2-3 times a day. They can start in a leg, my head, or arm on one side and it varies on which side it starts. It is similar to a restless leg if it starts in a leg with some jerking except that it doesn't stop and it continues to travel to my arm and my hand gets weak then it is travels to other side sometimes. I am awake and alert except for when my eyes go blurry and I a few seconds of nothing.

It sounds like you are doing

It sounds like you are doing a good job of making note of the details of symptoms; any doctor you see should appreciated this.  Can you associate the spells with anything you eat?  Do you take any other medications?  Time of day they happen?  It sounds like something involving the nervous system which can be sometimes be difficult to diagnose and trace.  It does sound like seizure but I wonder if a general practitioner will openly acknowledge this.  You will probably be referred to a neurologist.

Thanks for reply, I

Thanks for reply, I appreciate as I at a lost. I sent a message to my neurologist who I see for my sleep apnea and headaches. My thought is sleep deprivation is causing it. The times are usually after waking up,mid day and before bed. I haven't been able to associate it with anything I eat and my medications have stayed the same for a long time. I started to have a increase in headaches about the same time these spells started happening which the neurologist said me starting the cpap will help. I started the cpap a week ago. My wife who works as a direct support staff at group home saw me have one on Sunday morning and she said it looked like a seizure to her. Then question becomes could of I developed seizures and will a cpap machine stop them. I will post when I hear back from my doctor on what she said.

welcome I read this post and your response to Michales reply. The things you posted could be seizures or parts of seizures. Focal seizures start in one place For me they started in my right hand. It would feel numb. If it started generalizing (moving to other areas) my right arm would start to rise. Once it reached should level I went down, At times that was it and I knew what was happening around me and who was there and heard what was being said. I just could not respond until the seizure was over. If it went farther I could go into a convulsion. Again I know what was happening. Your restless leg might be a myoclonus which is a muscle jerk of spasm. everyone has them Think of a hiccup and you have a myoclonus twitching. In your response your cpap might help. Which is good if it does, His thought of sleep deprivation may be associated with these my also be right just as your headaches since they to  can be parts of seizures and sleep deprivation is a trigger for many people.Your wife knows more then you do since she stated they look like seizures. Most neurologists have specialized . Just as yours may specialize in sleep depravation. You may want to talk to him and have your wife there since she saw one.  You need to see a epileptologist (neurologist that specializes in epilepsy) in order to get treatment for your issues.
