Side effects of medication

Thu, 05/09/2019 - 13:06
I take lamictal 400 mg, and keppra 1500 mg twice daily for my seizures and 1200 mg of Gabapentin for trigeminal neuralgia. My neurologist added 400 mg tegretol for my trigeminal neuralgia and the next day I couldn't walk without falling down and was having double vision. My dr abruptly took me off the tegretol and I am still unballenced and having bad thoughts. Am I having withdrawal symptoms?

I've had loads of side

I've had loads of side effects from two drugs - levetiracetam and lamotrigine. Loss of balance and co-ordination, memory problems, insomnia, extremely vivid and disturbing dreams, tummy problems, both with my bowels and nausea, cough, joint and back pain, fatigue and tiredness ... I'm being changed from levetiracetm (known to have lots of side effects and some of the worst) to the supposedly safer, fewer side effects lamotrigine, but I just have a different set of side effects, and some are not so good - more twitches and tics. . The joint and back pain, in practically every part of me, is getting more than I can cope with, still there after nearly three months. Does this mean that it won't go away? I've been scared to increase the doses as I am supposed to as I know that each time I do so, I'll probably feel worse. I also fear that if I go back to the doctor, I'll just be put onto yet another drug, with another set of side effects, and I'll spend my life feeling sick. Does anyone actually feel well with epilepsy? I've actually only had one episode of seizures, with a whole lot of other problems, and the doctors can't even say for sure that I've got epilepsy. I may be going through all of this for nothing.

As an update, I had to give

As an update, I had to give up on the lamotrigine - I couldn't cope tiwth the side effects, and the doctor said that if I still had them after about 14 weeks, it was quite likely that they wouldn't go away - and am being weaned off it and back onto the Keppra, which is very depressing, as it gave me its own side effects. I'm seriously considering trying to come off any drug, as quality of life has to be a consideration for me. Maybe I'd get seizures that were worse than the side effects, but I have to know. The hospital has told me that the only way to tell if I have epilepsy is to try to come off the drugs.
