Looking for a new medication. What has worked for you?

Hi, my 20 year old daughter has been on 3,000 mg of levetiracetam for the past 3 months (up'd from 2,500 due to breakthrough seizures). Our doctor recommended Lamotrigine, although I've read about so many side effects people have, that I'm nervous for her to try this. We looked into Brivaracetam, but there isn't a generic and our insurance company won't cover it. just wondering what has worked for you, plus the side effects you've experienced.

The medicines are different for everyone.  I cannot tolerate Keppra, but I've been on Lamictal for years without a problem.

I’m 31 and on 50mg lamotrigine which is a super low dose, but it’s controlled my simple seizures. I’m having to be on an additional medication for my mood though because even the low dose without an anti anxiety/antidepressant makes me anxious, irritable and snippy and Ill just sob for no reason. I honestly want to try something else, but I’m still breastfeeding so my options are limited.

I have been on 150mg of lamotrigine for several years and it has worked well with relatively few and mild side effects. (I have been treated for epilepsy for 40 years and tried a lot of meds over that time, and this one is my favorite.). Everyone is different though, so I’d say try it and then judge.
