Keppra Issue

Thu, 09/06/2018 - 21:33
Just looking for some insight... I have read so many forums on here about the issues people have with keppRAGE and I have been experiencing it to the fullest. I have had a few TC seizures and after my last hospital visit I was put on Keppra 750 mg two times a day which works for the seizures but the side effects are horrible. I am basically intolerable to be around. My Dr. told me that the issues I was having should subside in about a month and to take some B6 which should help. I am now about to go back for my six week follow up and still feel the same as I did when I first started getting side effects. I try my best to ignore the rage I feel but it’s extremely difficult. I feel as if I am a completely normal person one minute and the next I get so furious at the littlest things. My question in all of this... has anyone had these same issues and switched to something else successfully? I just don’t want to bother if they are all going to have the same issues. It does seems that there is a lot more issues with Keppra than there are success stories so I’m thinking I’m just on the wrong medication. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Get off of Keppra ASAP. I had

Get off of Keppra ASAP. I had the same experience, and I've never felt worse in my life. I was alwayd angry at nothing. My wife and I got into a lot fights. She can be a hothead herself, but it was new for me, and I didn't have the skills to control it when I had never had to before starting on Keppra. I felt depressed, I gained a lot weight (heaviest I've ever been), and was just generally unhappy and self-loathing to the incongruence between the way I've always seen myself (kind, patient, slow to anger)and my behavior/emotions. I felt like an entirely different person, and my wife noticed the personality change. I'm glad she was understanding.I switched to lamictal. It's not perfect either and can cause irritability, but it's nothing like Keppra. I hear that Keppra works great for a lot of people, but the ones that have a bad reaction live in absolute hell. The transition to lamictal took a couple months of taking both drugs (talk about feeling zonked out), but once the Keppra started leaving my system, it was night and day. I felt happier, more motivated and hopeful, the weight fell off with light exercise, and my seizures were better control. I highly recommend making the switch and work from there.

my husband has been on keppra

my husband has been on keppra 3000mg daily and his seizures are not controlled  he's having about 5-6 seizures a year, but no side effects! He was on dilantin in the past and had no seizures for like 5 years but with the long term side effects on dilantin they switched him to keppra and its been a nightmare. He has an appointment with his neurologist in a few weeks to see what the next step is since keppra isnt working for him and he is already on the highest dose already.

I just started Keppra

I just started Keppra yesterday, and I was not aware of this. I know some other meds have made me irritable, but after a seizure I'm ALWAYS a pain to be around. I'm a newbie to seizures and now I have something to look out for. (Seems some people are ragey on more than a few of these medications.) I don't have insight for you, but I'm writing to thank you for the warning. The other posts about giving it a try and knowing everyone's different have also helped. Thanks, guys!
