Is the goal of medication to stop szs altogether or just have fewer?

Thu, 06/16/2005 - 00:00
I'm on 150 mg/day of Topamax, and I am definitely having fewer szs that don't progress as far as they used to. They'll stop at a simple partial instead of becoming, say, a complex partial. It feels much better to have far fewer and less intense, but should I be disappointed that it's not stopping altogether? And so should I be asking to have my dosage increased so that they'll stop altogether? Or should this be the goal and should I be happy with this? I *am* happy; I'm just wondering if I should expect more...

HI, I was told by my neurologist that there is currently no medication available that 100% gaurentees anyone from having another seizure.  That the best you can hope for is a decrease in number of episodes and / or the severity.  If anyone knows different please say so.
