emotional side effects of lamictal

Sun, 10/16/2005 - 22:14
Recently my lamictal has slowly been increased from 100mg twice a day, to 150mg twice a day, and now to 200mg twice a day, because I continued to have tonic clonic's once a month during, or before my period. Now that I have been on 200mg for a week I am starting to show side effects such as loss of apetite, trouble falling asleep, and trouble concentrating. These are a few of the side effects that I was warned about, and was therefore expecting. However, one side effect that has caught me off guard is that I suddenly become emotional, just at random moments. It has happened to me three times during this first week of me taking the 200mg. Like I said, they were just at really random moments. Once when I was driving my car, once while I was in class, and this last time I was just watching TV. By any chance has this happened to anyone else?

I'm not sure if you'll see this or not but I am in the process of switching from tegretol to lamictal. They weaned me up to 400mgs of lamictal and 2 weeks ago started pulling me off my 800 mgs of teg to 600 mgs. well suddenly i began having anxiety attacks (very severe lasting all day and night). I was also on celexa with my tegretol but was doing really well on it. I am at a total loss and now am uncertain if I should continue this swtich at all. Given that, I would say that something is going on with lamictal for both of us. Nicole

First, as a n00b, I just want to say that I like the screenname. I used to joke about that all the time, but never went through with my cape idea. I think that if anything from lamictal I've got was the pleasant side effect of it being an anti-depressant. This may not be so, it could be that I have simply gone out of my mind. If your already switching, I'd say keep going and see what happens. It could be the transition. I made the same switch, but am pretty oblivious to my body unless it's unignorable. Certainly I would have noticed a panic attack. Have you had those in the past? Caboose.
