Dilantin & Depakote

Tue, 05/18/2004 - 16:35
Sorry, I haven't heard of Felbatol. I am now taking Dilantin (400 mg one night, 500 mg the next night) and 1000 mg of Depakote ER each night. They tried Keppra, but they switched me to Depakote ER. How was the Dilantin and Depakote working for you? Why did they switch you to Trileptal/Keppra combo? Why are they now considering Felbatol? My hands are shaking on occasion, but my neurologist says that tremors are "common" with Depakote. (It's still a little worrisome to me.) Did you experience tremors?

I was wondering if you still needed input on felbatol. I have been taking felbatol since it first came out in 1993, when the aplastic anemia thing came out, my doctor told me that everyone who developed aplastic anemia was also taking something else. Since i am using it as a monotreatment, this was not an issue for me. I have not had any problems with the drug and have been seizure free ever since. I can drive, I work, I do everything everyone else does. I do not have to have weekly liver tests, I only have bloodwork done once a year. So, thats my input on the drug, I've had nothing but success with it. Hope that helps!Lisa

Any input is always helpful! I'm on Keppra and feeling fine. Felbatol was a suggestion option put forth by my neurologist if, the Keppra therapy wouldn't work out.

Thanx,

Matt

I was on Felbaltol and was very sick on it. I got off of it in one month. I believe people have died from it in the past. Now if they make it different I dont know. But not safe to me.But hopefully Keppra will work for you and then you wont have to worry about it.http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/EpilepsyApproach/Lisa
