Keppra and Marijuana

Mon, 10/17/2011 - 21:47

My 15 yr old son was just diagnosed with epilepsy. He is on Keppra and smokes marijuana. Are there any serious side effects of smoking while on Keppra. Anyone out there smoke and take Keppra? He just started Keppra today. 2 doses. 1 in the morning and 1 at night.  Also, do they side effects of Keppra subside?

Make sure he is actually

Make sure he is actually taking his meds. I am on Keppra and Depakote for seizures. I was on phenobarbital but it no longer works for me so that could be something else to look at. Also, my doctor told me most seizures are brought on by too much stress, too little food or sleep and not taking meds. My stepmother had a nephew that just died two weeks ago. He was on Keppra for seizures but it came out that he was notorious for not taking his medicine and telling people he had. Maybe your son is doing the same thing thinking the pot alone is fine. He should have bloodwork dome to see if his meds need to be adjusted or changed to something else.

I'm 20 and I've had epilepsy

I'm 20 and I've had epilepsy for the past three years. I don't smoke "medical" marijuana but you know lol. But whenever I run out of meds and I feel the symptoms of a seizure coming on I go outside smoke and I'm completely back to normal and sometimes right after I take my meds at night it helps with sleep and not having your thoughts running all over the place.

After 3months seizure free, I

Submitted by Kevin50 on Wed, 2018-09-12 - 14:09
After 3months seizure free, I triggered one on Labor Day, I think because of alcohol withdrawal from the night b4, (I can’t drink alcohol anymore, excepted) dehydration with temps in the 90’s & high humidity, intense physical stress, and not sitting my ass down to smoke a joint or take my Keppra like prescribed. It was really scary and humbling. But it felt good to wakeup in the ER, feeling perfectly fine 10mins later, and walk out! Thank you medical marijuana. That use to be unheard of!!!
