Sounds that trigger seizures???

Sun, 03/20/2005 - 09:26

Hi I am new here and recently was diagnosed with having seizures. I dont have the Grandmal seizures, but I have the partial seizures. This is an embarrassing question to ask, but does anyone here think that certain sounds can trigger a seizure? Sometimes the feeling of de javu comes on after I hear a certain word, or maybe sound. I cant ever remember what it is after words.

Also I might be watching tv, or doing nothing and suddenly a word, not even a word sometimes ( more like a made up word ) will pop into my head and it gives me the feeling that a siezure is going to happen. I know this sounds crazy, but if anyone can relate I would appreciate it greatly. Thanks, Laurie

Sound triggers for me are horrible its more the constant sound that does it to me i hate it. I was  studying music and sound production to prepare for a career in music.  Now sounds affect me to the point that i had to stop.

I feel you. I get the same feeling but I only get  partial seizures and not full blown ones. Thanks to God I do not get full blown ones  very frequently, but when have had them, they where pretty bad. I broke my noise, and chipped a tooth.

Hi my son is 8 and was

Hi my son is 8 and was diagnosed with epilepsy only yesterday. We do not know of any definite triggers however I believe loud noises or certain types of flashing lights may be triggers ( especially as it has been bonfire weekend and he complained about the noise before falling asleep) however I have not ruled stress out either. Last year he was diagnosed with audiological sensory and proprioceptive sensory problems and also has great difficulties with reading/ writing and also his emotions run very high. We are due to start meds today and are obviously feeling very anxious. It's so hard to know what the best decision is especially when I am making that decision for the person that is most precious to me in the whole world. I mention the sensory side as I know this diagnosis didn't exist back when I was at school and still isn't taken as seriously as it should be now but personally I think his sensory problems and seizures are linked. He has always complained about noises. Due to his sensory issues I am concerned that the things he is most drawn to like flashing lights are the things that could be causing the seizures. Can anyone comment on this? Also those who have spoken about music. When he had his latest seizure on sat Nov 4th after complaining of the fireworks, I put on silent night as he likes this song and had it on repeat. Do you think the fact that I had that on or even that I had it on repeat possibly aggravated him rather than helped. I take my hat off to my little man who is taking it in his stride, and has had so much to put up with in life already. I just want to wrap him up and not let the world get to him. However I am more level headed than this and know he just wants to get back to normality. Thanks for listening. To everyone who has epilepsy, the rest of the world really don't know what you go through on a daily basis and you must be very special people to deal with what epilepsy can throw at you. Stay strong and persevere xx
